How You Can Improve Your Level of Competence

  • Get your head in the game. If you notice that you have been mentally or emotionally detached from your work, it is time to re-engage and rededicate yourself to your job. Determine to give your job an appropriate amount of time and undivided attention. The next step is to figure out why you have become detached in the first place. Identify the source of the problem and create a plan to resolve it.
  • Redefine the standard. Reexamine your standards if you are not performing at constantly high standards. Make sure that you have not been shooting too low or cutting corners. If this is the case, it is time to outline more demanding expectations for yourself.
  • Find three ways to improve. To improve you have to be intentional about it. Find three things you can do to improve your professional skills. Dedicate time and money to follow through on them.
