The Public Protector is selected by the President, on the suggestion of the National Assembly. The Public Protector needs to be a South African citizen who is appropriately experienced and competent and has exhibited a reputation for integrity and honesty. The Public Protector has the right to inspect any conduct in state affairs or public authority, in any sphere of government, that is alleged to be improper or to result in any prejudice or impropriety.
