Much has been said of the importance of communication, but communication does not “just happen”. For effective communication to occur in a team, there has to be an effective communication strategy in place. Goals and objectives, operational constraints and pertinent conditions in the environment have to be considered. Effective communication does not begin with talking and convincing but with hearing and understanding. When it comes to communication, it is essential to understand that people respond to the world as they see it.
Unless your message is both heard and understood by the audience you are trying to reach, the message is nothing but noise. Whether verbal or non-verbal, we are constantly communicating to and with others. Communication is important whether you are delivering a speech in the boardroom, listening to your partner or in the way you respond to your children. In the Communication Strategies Workshop, participants will learn about the different methods of communications and how to make the most of them.
The Communication Strategies Course will teach participants about communication barriers that they may encounter in their team including language barriers and cultural barriers. They will learn paraverbal communication skills such as the power of pitch, the truth about tone and the strength of speed. The important subject of non-verbal communication will also be covered including the Mehrabian Study, body language and the interpretation of gestures. Further topics covered in the course includes listening skills, asking good questions, appreciative inquiry, mastering the art of communication and advanced communication skills.
